Distance Camps

COHIPAC, the name derived from the spirit that is adventurous among us...that moves us...ever upward...ever outward...ever towards adventure, COHIPAC, Colorado High Peaks Adventure Camps, are at their core the very best expression of what it is to be a Coloradan. It is this spirit of adventure that sets COHIPAC distance running camps apart from the others. Developed by David (Coach Mac) McMillan, Durango HS Head X-Country and Track & Field coach, the outdoor nature of the camps, in the rugged backcountry of Colorado, is unique, challenging, and rewarding.

We will spend 5-7 days in the back country camping, running, doing yoga, plios.  We will live high, train low, we will live high, train higher. The highlight will be the runs up three to four of the high peaks in the area (+14,000 ft!!).

In the summer of 2015, our High Peaks camp will be based out of Buena Vista, CO. We will run in and around Mt Massive and Mt Ebert.The dates are as follows:
  • June 6 - 12, 2015.
The High Peaks camps require a certain base level of fitness as we will be camping and running at elevations above 10,000 ft.  These camps are for athletes 12 years and older.  Each camp is limited to 16 athletes.

Camping experience, while not required, is recommended. You will need the following GEAR..
Using the latest research in physiology, pliometrics, kinetics, nutrition, training, recovery, and visualization as our template, we will prepare you for the upcoming cross-country season. When others are sleeping, we will be running; When others are running, we will be running the high peaks of Colorado!

Our daily routine will look something like this:
  • 6am - up early for a Captains run;
  • 7am - yoga at dawn, followed by a swim in the lake;
  • 8am - breakfast and group time;
  • 9am - 11am - personal time/journaling
  • 11am - Learning Lab: Periodization - why it works, by Ed Eystone, US Olympian and BYU Head Men's Coach.
  • Noon-ish - lunch;
  • 1pm - 3pm - Personal time;
  • 4pm - afternoon run;
  • 6pm -9pm - dinner & evening activities.
On the days that we ascend a 14-er, we will start

early with the goal of being down by mid-afternoon.

Come and join us and the returning campers - it will be the

experience of your (young) lifetime!

"There will come a day when you can no longer

run.....today is not that day!"
